BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The military remains a vital element in the overall national security strategy. Military involvement in the internal security operations is inevitable as the need for higher level of aggression (Peterside, 2014).
The role of the military in the internal security operations cannot be over emphasized. The military is one of the most consistent subsector of the Nigerian federal structure. Right from independence, to the presence period of democratic rebirth; the complex task of keeping Nigeria one, and of protecting the nation from external and internal aggression and attacks undoubtedly rest primarily on the military (ibis).

In the south-east, in the Niger Delta and in other parts of the country, disenchanted young Nigerians are taking up arms in a quest for an end to what they deem the state’s injustice to them. Amidst the biting economic recession which is a source of insecurity itself, the politically diverse entity called Nigeria must be manage with astuteness.

The role of the military cannot be over emphasized in the security of every nation. Nigerian as a nation, is not left behind in terms of security challenges, ranging from insurgency to attacks by herdsmen.
