BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The occurrence of virus and disease is not something new in this generation but the re occurrence of this deadly virus has a lot of risk on every individual and school children which kills as many as 90% of people its infect which can even leads to instantaneous death. It is one of the viruses that are capable of causing hemorrhagic (bloody fever). Epidemic of Ebola virus has occurred mainly in African countries including Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), Ghana, Gabon, Uganda, The Ivory Coast and Sudan (World Health Organization, WHO, 2014).
The disease was first identified in 1976 in two simultaneous outbreak, one in Nzara and other in Yanbuku, a village near the Ebola River from which the disease take its name. Ebola virus disease outbreak occurs intermittently in tropical region of sub Saharan Africa. Between 1976 and 2013, the World Health Organization reports a total of 24 outbreaks involving. 1716 cases. The largest outbreak is the ongoing epidemics in West Africa in Guinea Sierra Leone and Liberia. As of 11th of April 2015 this outbreak has 25,826 reported cases resulting in 10,704 death. (Nguku S.T. et. al. 2015). The way in which the virus first appears in at the start of an outbreak has not been determined. However it has been hypothesized that the first patient (index case) became infected through contact with an infected animal. (WHO April 4, 2014). The length of time between exposure to the virus and the development of symptoms (incubation period) is between 2 to 21 days, usually between 4 to 10 days (CDC January 28, 2014).
The initial symptoms are usually high fever, headaches, stomach ache, decreased appetite, diarrhea, there may also be some throat, hiccups and itchy eyes the symptoms that tends to follow include vomiting rash and bleeding problem with bloody nose (epistaxis spitting up blood from the lung hemoptysis) and vomiting it up from the stomach (hematemesis) and blood eyes conjectural hemorrhages. Then comes chest pain, shock and death (Kampar JJ et al 2014).
Ebola virus is transmitted through contact with blood, feaces, and body fluids of the person who has developed symptoms of the disease. Body fluids that may contain Ebola virus include saliva, mucus, vomit, sweat, tears, breast milk, urine and semen. (D.J Kumar A. Nov. 2014). The WHO 2014 state that only people who are very sick are able to spread Ebola disease in Saliva and whole virus has not been reported to be through sweat. Most people spread the virus through blood, feaces, vomit. Entry point of the virus include the nose, mouth, ear, open wounds, cut and abrasions. It can also be contacted through direct contact with the virus as in a laboratory, this is why the virus often spread through families and friends of an infected person (Questions and Answer on Ebola by CDC Sept. 2014).
This may also occur through contact with an item recently contaminated with bodily fluids of human has not been documented in either laboratory, or natural conditions, semen, or breast milk of a person after recovery from Ebola virus. Diseases may still carry the virus for several weeks or months. (Patrick M.S. 2014). Moreover, in the course of feeding, holding or otherwise caring for them, family members and friends would come into close contact with the secretion, people can contact with objects such as needles that have been contaminated with infected secretion (Patrick MS 2014).
Children are tomorrow’s leader, Ebola virus is epidemic in nature, the knowledge / awareness of Ebola virus is very important to the school children at the early stage because there is an adage that says “Catch them young” meaning to give these children appropriate education or awareness on this deadly virus (i.e. causes, symptoms and prevention) at the early stage so that if they notice any sudden change or symptoms they can easily call the attention of their parents, teachers or guidance.
Furthermore, children are part of the community and they are so fragile that can easily spread the disease among their peers within the community, if the knowledge and appropriate education is not given to them on the causes, symptoms, effect and prevention of the virus. Since this virus leads to instantaneous death it can easily leads to these children’s death therefore, jeopardizing our future generation which are these school children. So the knowledge of the virus will help the school children to know the causes, effect, symptoms and ways/step to take to avoid further spread of the virus among the school children.
There is no specific treatment for the disease, currently patient fluids electrolytes maintaining their oxygen level and blood pressure and treating them for any complicating infections. Death can occur within 10 days of the onset of the symptoms. The prevention of the spread of Ebola virus or fever involves practical viral hemorrhagic fever isolation precautions or barrier nursing techniques. These techniques includes the wearing of protective clothing such as masks, gloves, gown and goggles, the use of infection, control measures including complete equipment sterilization and the isolation of Ebola virus patient from contact with unprotected person. The aim of all these techniques is to avoid any patients. If a person with ebola fever dies, it is equally important that direct contact with the body of the deceased patient be prevented.
The Ebola virus diseases outbreak in West African has had enormous negative impacts of school children affecting their educational progress in such a way that All schools (primary and secondary) in Nigeria especially Ogun State (the case study) were to resumed by September 2014 but due to the outbreak of this disease, they all resumed by October ending 2014 this has one way or the other affects their educational/school calendar or system for the session.
However, this work is carried out to look into the effects of ebola virus diseases particularly on school children and its health implication and will also look at the possible safety measure to be taken to avoid the continuous spread of the virus, to know the likely signs and symptoms when the virus arises or when any sudden change occur in a child and its causes.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Ebola virus diseases are introduced to the human population through close contact with the blood, secretion, organ or other bodily fluids of effected animal. Ebola virus does not transmit through air as influenza does after two up to 21 days following exposure to the virus disease may start suddenly with fever, muscles aches weakness. Vomiting head ache and sore throat in some cases, they can be internal and external bleeding and impaired kidney and liver function.
However, Ebola virus disease has affected an estimates 759 people and 457 people have died in Guinea SierraLeone and Liberia according to world health organization (WHO) IN 2004.
It is not always easy to identify patient with Ebola virus early because initial symptoms may be non-specific for this reason, it is very important that health worker apply standard precaution in all work practice at all time. These include basically hand hygiene respiratory hygiene. The use of personal protective equipment and safe injection practices.
Therefore, the study seek to investigate the origin Ebola an its spread around the world and the possible measure for solving the outbreak.

To find the causes of Ebola virus disease to examine critically the effect of Ebola virus disease. To look at what people will do in order to agitate on the prevention of Ebola virus disease and to suggest possible b solution to problem in the study.

This research work is intending to carry out a complete the origin of Ebola and its spread around the world and the possible measure for solving the outbreak. But due to time and financial the research work will be carried out in Federal College of Education, Abeokuta only.
