RESEARCH BODY

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the information communication technology on effective processing on students results in federal college of education Osiele Abeokuta in carrying out this study five research question were raised the sample for the study comprises fine schools with the questionnaire which is the school of arts and social sciences, school of education school of vocational, school of languages and the school of science in federal college of education Osiele Abeokuta. The instrument used for data collection was a self developed questionnaire the data collected was used to answer research question one by one the questionnaire which contain draw used for data collection 100 questionnaire were administered and 98 were received by the researcher. The percentage statically formula was used for the data analysis based on the finding of this research ICT effective processing on student results means, method and machines, that human beings use to collect, store, process and transmit data in different forms (texts, sounds, and pictures) from source or decorder with an effect feedback. ICT uses in federal college of education Abeokuta has positive and negative effect on processing of students results in Federal College of Education Abeokuta.
CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

1.1    Background to the Study

Information communication technology is a collection of computers, all connected to one another, it first got its start in (1966) as the ARPANET, a project of the defense department’s advanced research projects agency at some point it was opened up to University researchers and for many years, was used primarily for transferring e-mail and files among university researchers and for exchanging information via newsgroup. Each computers that is connected to the network is called an internet host in (1986) there were 5,000 hosts and 241 newsgroups.

In (1990), Timberners-Lee came up with the idea of having a large number of documents all of which could be linked together and refer to one another he called this set of documents the World Wide Web (www). Each person or organisation’s collection of document was called a website the idea caught on quickly in (1993) there were too website (the internet itself was till growing, there were now two million internets hosts) in (1955) there were 100,000 websites, and the numbers of internet hosts has grown as well.

The importance of ICT to educational system, expanding the pool of teachers in the past, the role of teacher in an educational institution was a role given to only highly qualified people when technology facilities to extend the teaching pool beyond the specialists set to include many people, today, we have a much varying roles able to provide support for learning in a variety of flexible setting, this trend seems set to continue and to grow with new ICT development and applications within this change pool of teachers will come and changed responsibilities and skills set for future teaching involving high level of ICT and the need for the more facilitative then dictative teaching roles (little john et- 2002)

Expanding the pool of students result education has been a privilege and an opportunity that often was unvaluable to many student whose situation did not fit the main stream through the flexibilities provided by technology, many student who previously were unable to participate in educational activities are now finding opportunities to do so, the pool of student is changing people who have a need for education and training are able to take advantage of the increased opportunities among schools students.

computer aided instruction has been seen to slightly improve student performance on multiple choice standardized testing in some area, computer aided instruction which refers generally to student self study has also be very helpful especially when considering individual differences in learners since they learn their own pace.

Impact of information communication on effective processing of students result it is generally believed that information communication technology empower teachers and learners promote change and foster the development of 21 century skills, but data to support these beliefs are still limited, ICT help the student and teacher to improve learning processes from being highly teacher dominated to student centered and that this transformation will result in increased learning gains for students, creating and allowing for opportunities for learners to developed their creating problems- solving abilities, informational reasoning skills communication skills and other higher order thinking skills. However, ICT are very rarely seen as central to the overall learning process.

1.2    Statement of the Problem

Need for clear goals, ICT are seen to be less effective or ineffective when the goals for their use neither the rationale are not clear while such a statement would appear to be self evident  the specific goal for ICT uses in education are in practice often only very broadly or rather loosely defined.

There may be a mismatch between the method used to measure effects and the nature of the learning promoted by the specific uses of ICT for example some student have looked only for improvements in teaching and learning processes, instead for them to look for new processes and knowledge related to the use of ICT.
1.3    Research Questions

The study provides answers to the following questions:

  • What are the facilities available on the ICT?
  • Are there facilities Adequate?
  • Does ICT has any effect on student result?
  • What problems confront students in the use of ICT?
  • Can ICT help to solve the problem?
  • Do students pocess requisites skills in using facilities?

1.4    Purpose of Study

The specific purpose of the study are as follows:

  • To know the adequate facilities available on the ICT.
  • To process requisites skills in using facilities on the ICT.
  • To examine the problems confronting students in the use of ICT.
  • To recommend ways and how the problems can be solved.

1.5    Scope of Study

This study is a way of attempting on effect of Information Communication Technology (ICT) on student result. It works on Federal College of Education students results Abeokuta. It works on the effect and processes in students result in Federal College of Education, Abeokuta and other College Schools ICT.
1.6    Significance of Study

This study is significance as many categories of people will benefit from it. The beneficiaries includes the students, lecturers, and the school administrators the design of this project works as been made in a way to provide same educative information message to all and within the educational sector, most especially student in college schools.

This study will enable the general public to appreciate that information communication technology has impact on students results processing.
1.6    Definition of Terms

Information: This is the ability to use computers, to source for information process and able to communicate with it information would equip one to be able to work with computers, so as to be (ICT) compliant through computer the world has reduced to a global village where at a touch, on computer button, one can talk, see listen to anybody at anytime of the day provided the necessary gadget are available and functional.

The important thing here is to be connected with the right buttons and be (ICT) compliant. People with skills in accessing and using information are said to be information literate by Kehinde (20080.

Communication: Are diverse set of tools and resources used to communicate, create disseminate, store and manage information, it includes computers, the internet broadcasting technologies (radio and television) and telephony, these is increasing internet in how computer and the internet can improve education at all levels in both formal and non-formal settings with the communication from the ICT student will be able to recommend some errors and problems on their result and be able to use ICT to solve it.

Technology: Technological development in the millennium will require well qualified students with genuine interest in their programme. The numbers to be admitted should be determined by the facilities available in order to ensure that only the qualified candidates are admitted the controlling agencies the NCCE, through the ICT.
